As we come to the end of our fifteenth year of business, we want to extend our very best wishes for a happy holiday season, and a sincere 'Thank You' to all who have helped us to have one of our best years ever here at Starlight. With just a few days left until Christmas morning, much like you we are busy preparing for our traditional holiday meals, and much anticipated get-togethers with dear friends and family.
Cookie baking day
Today is 'baking day' at our house, and Florence is all smiles as she prepares her ginger bread men for their turn in the oven. They will soon join her delicious pecan short bread and traditional Italian pizzelles.

She's adding a new variety this year - Chocolate-Nut Rugelach. If they turn out as good as the description in the December issue of Bob Appetit, we'll be sure to post the recipe here soon.

A tradition from Florence's (nee: Chirumblo) Italian heritage, Christmas Eve dinner in our household is always based on the Feast of the 7 Fishes, or Festa dei sette pesci. Due to smaller dinner crowds these days (and expanding waistlines), we've gradually reduced the menu to the The Feast of 4 Fishes. This year we'll start mid-afternoon with her father's famous Clams Casino, and move on to Florence's delicious Lobster Bisque. After a pause for proper digestion, aided by a nice Chardonnay, we'll indulge in an Alaskan King Crab cocktail, and wrap up with tasty Tempura Prawns and Calamari Pasta. With such a sumptuous feast, the key to culinary survival is small portions over a long period of time.

With a hearty Christmas dinner, a bounty of holiday sweets to tempt us, and perhaps a cocktail or two on New Years Eve, our menus will likely be focused on less extravagant, low fat menus in the not too distant future. When that happens we'll share some of our healthier recipes with others who may be fighting the Battle of the Bulge. In the meantime, let's all relax and enjoy the holidays.
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from Starlight!
