In 1999, Florence Pharis, founder of Starlight Herb & Spice Company, turned a life long love of cooking with herbs into a small, home based business.  With the focus on quality rather than quantity, Starlight herbs were quickly recognized by both home cooks and food service professionals as far superior to the products available from commercial sources.  Starlight’s chemical & pesticide free herbs were soon carried by many local grocers, and used exclusively by some of the area’s top chefs.  Before long a thriving business was born.

In 2002 Florence began experimenting with new ways of drying her beautiful fresh herbs to produce a high quality dried product.  After much trial and error, the “small lot” drying process was perfected.  By reducing the batch size and the drying temperature, she discovered that it was possible to maintain a higher level of moisture, capturing more of the plants’ essentials oils.  The result was a product that is truly superior in terms of color, aroma, flavor and shelf-life.

Florence spends much of the time between growing seasons combining different herbs & spices to create unique & tasty blends.  Starlight now offers over 40 handcrafted rubs & blends, and adds several new creations to the line each winter.  Florence has now added a line of Gourmet Spice Grinders, and most recently, a line of wildly popular herb spiced nuts.
